Malaysia Airlines recently launched an employees’ advocate’ blog as a new outlet to reach its customers. Naked Surfer was there to see how it works.

MAS' blog as a vehicle to communicate with its customers

“One-of-a-kind” is how some local journalists are describing Malaysia Airlines’ blog, named Living Malaysian Hospitality - Eating, Breathing, Sleeping MH, as it is the first time that the national carrier is harnessing the popularity of blogging to communicate with its customers.

MAS managing director Datuk Seri Idris Jala (pictured left) said the blog was aimed at providing customers with a better understanding of the organisation’s changing work culture and was also part of the airline’s initiatives under its Malaysian Hospitality campaign.

The blog has four sections: Sneak Peek, From Our Guests, Corporate Speak and Psst!

Sneak Peek, as its name suggests, gives customers an insight into the airline’s transformation and also contains “inspiring” stories of the employees’ contributions that help turn the airline around. It captures, as Idris put it, “the essence of how the employees are the ones driving the (airline’s) transformation”.

If you have been tearing your hair on the inability to reach MAS to voice some complaints or get some information, here’s your chance to blog with the 30-odd bloggers manning the site at “From Our Guests” and tell them exactly what’s on your mind.

According to Idris, all comments are welcomed. “The idea is to share stories constructively. We want to hear from the customers, whether good or bad.”

Travel tales and tips can be found under “Psst!” while corporate announcements are to be found under “Corporate Speak”.

Idris assured that the blog would be made “as free as possible”, although there would be a certain level of control to avoid contents that may bring legal implications.

Naked Surfer hears from a little bird that the MAS blog may not be “one-of-a-kind” for long. Rival AirAsia will be starting a blog soon. And here’s the juicer part - the airline’s CEO, the flamboyant Dato’ Tony Fernandes, may join the bloggers’ community and start his own blog!

Blog on,
Naked Surfer
