Cadbury chocolate’s new “Eyebrow” television advertisement, which features two children moving their eyebrows to electronic music, has ruffled some feathers in Hong Kong.
The ad, created to project a new image and to stimulate sales, however led to some "raised eyebrows" in Hong Kong when it was broadcast recently over the local television stations. According to a report in Hong Kong’s Apple Daily, about 20 citizens filed complaints to the territory’s Television and Entertainment Authority as they said the ad might lead children into moving their eyebrows around in violation of proper manners.
One complainant, according to the report, is a Hong Kong University masters student who said that the ad made people uneasy and the advertising agency should never have hired children as performers.
There were debates too among netizens too. While some wondered what the ad hoped to achieve, others praised it for being "funny, satisfying, attractive and creative".
So while the debate goes on Cadbury is probably patting itself on its back as the “Eyebrow” ad has won the company many advertising awards overseas.
