Hot Spots: Holiday ideas to get you started

Stuck for ideas on this year's holiday choices? We've been combing some of the world's best destination reading to help you make the choice a little easier.

Starting with an ever-growing destination choice, the New York times has this story on exploring Dubai on a budget.

While Dubai on a budget was once an oxymoron, NYT notes,

"Now a number of budget hotel chains are moving into this playground for the rich. Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the serial entrepreneur who founded the budget airline easyJet, was in Dubai two weeks ago to break ground on the first of six easyHotels to be built in the emirate."

Prices are expected to be around US$67 to US$80 a night, it notes.

Budget Beaches

Always a good place for glamourous travel ideas, Conde Nast has taken a look at the less lavish end of the market, with a top-10 format spread on Budget Beaches - in Asia it features Ko Phi Phi. To view the story, click here.

Cheap escapes UK

As the booking period for summer holidays from Britain is looming, Britain's Observer has these suggestions for holiday breaks for the "broke"... although at 1,000 pounds for "broke", we wonder if the broke wouldn't be better staying in Asia. To view the story, click here.

Better surfing for travel

A useful article for those confused by Internet booking sites - which doesn't pull its punches - is a recent feature, "How to be jumping Jask Flash on the internet".

For instance, it notes,

"Although Cheapflights calls itself a price-comparison site... To find its best fare to Hong Kong, I had to create no fewer than eight new search pages. Tedious. You’re better off with a comparison site such as Travelsupermarket.com."

A hundred hot ideas

If you're still starved of ideas after all that, then stay with The Times, and scour its guide to "The summer 100".

"Phew! We've ransacked the brochures, scoured the web and interrogated the industry to uncover the planet's best holidays."
