For true romance, says the Times Online, you don’t want a stuffy hotel. You need a sneaky hideaway for two.

Stephen Bleach presented this (European) summer’s Dirty Dozen. They include everything from a windmill on the Greek island of Santorini, to a love nest in the Dordogne in France.

“If you want to kindle new love, or rekindle old, there’s nothing like a romantic break.

“But, and I speak from experience here, hotels are not the answer,” says Bleach. “The problem, as with so many things in life, is Other People."

Dogs versus bugs in New York showdown

Naturally, no one wants to have their romantic break spoiled by bed bugs which is why prominent hotels in New York have called on highly trained dogs to sniff out the dastardly little creatures – the pestilence whose virulent return has been plaguing hotels across the US in recent years.

Lesbians of Lesbos fight for their rights

Campaigners on the Greek island of Lesbos are to go to court in an attempt to stop a gay rights organisation from using the term "lesbian".

The BBC reports the islanders say that if they are successful they may then start to fight the word lesbian internationally.

The issue boils down to who has the right to call themselves Lesbians.

Is it gay women, or the 100,000 people living on Greece's third biggest island - plus another 250,000 expatriates who originate from Lesbos?

The man spearheading the case, publisher Dimitris Lambrou, claims that international dominance of the word in its sexual context violates the human rights of the islanders, and disgraces them around the world.

New Zealand tops world’s best poll

Milford Sound in New Zealand has topped the Travellers' Choice list of 100 global destinations, with Queenstown close behind in second place.

The two New Zealand destinations were named in the Travellers' Choice Awards top ten ahead of Cayo Largo in Cuba, Rhodes in Greece, and California's Lake Tahoe.

The awards were determined based on the opinions of TripAdvisor's six million members worldwide.
