Learn at WIT and save a child
WIT will make a donation towards the Kantha Bopha children’s hospital in Siem Reap, Cambodia, run by Dr Beat Richner.
The hospital runs mainly on private donations and funds raised by Dr Richner, either through his “Beatocello” concerts or his fund-raising activities worldwide.
Last year, the hospital treated 96,000 children, 80 percent of whom have no chances of survival without hospitalization. Everyday, it receives about 3,000 outpatients. The centre heals 85% of all sick children it sees. There are 40-50 deliveries a day.
Dr Richner believes we should approach medicine like we do travel. “When you travel to places like Cambodia, you expect the same standards and facilities as back home. But somehow you don’t demand the same standards of hospitals.
“The medical facilities of a country should not reflect the economic condition. After all, travel does not.”
WIT will give US$10 for every full paying delegate to the hospital. Ace Daytons, event organiser, has also agreed to donate a portion of fees to the cause. Raffles Hotels & Resorts has agreed to match WITl’s donation in kind.
