| 10.40 - 11.15 | Debate I: Revolution vs Evolution A debate between a “Future” thinker and a “Now” believer. Two speakers square off on a battle of wills and wits in 10-minute presentations each, to be followed by audience discussion and voting session. The “Now” believer thinks what we have now are pretty darn good and that the goals of distribution and the path are well set at least for the next five years. He believes in “evolution”, not “revolution” and that there has already been too much change and the consumers and the whole distribution system need time to “catch up”. Web 2.0 is going to be enough for really compelling travel experiences. The “Future” thinker takes the view that disruptive technologies and new thinking will revolutionise the landscape in 2-3 years resulting in different seller and consumer behavior. He will argue whether we really need explicit user interfaces – why do we need intermediaries who are companies? Perhaps the ideal intermediary is actually software? And if intermediaries are to survive, how can they stay relevant and build sustainability into their businesses? Revolution: Michael Keaney, Chief Technology Officer, interTouch |
